The Weekend Movie Rundown: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Still Leads Slow Labor Weekend

'Guardians of the Galaxy' is still on top of the weekend list, despite the slow Labor Day week.

According to Inside Movies.com, the estimate earning of the Marvel film is $2.1 million Friday which is expected to finish to a $8 to $9 million gross this weekend. Since it debuted in the cinemas, the total gross is estimated at $290 million, while globally it has earned over $500 million.

The end of the summer was not helpful with the weekend movies as people preferred to stay home during the Labor Day weekend.

Comic Book.com touted 'Guardians of the Galaxy' as "one of the highest-grossing films of all time and set a new standard for comic book adaptations."

The top five movies of the weekend are, Guardians of Galaxy, If I Stay, Let's Be Cops, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and November Man.

The report said that it is a really slow weekend and that the Guardians of the Galaxy didn't have that much competition from the other movies, which will gross less than $5 million.

'If I Stay,' a drama film is not doing too bad with domestic earnings of $33.5 million ; 'Let's Be Cops,' comedy with 3.5 million, a film not doing well with reviews but still moviegoers are seeing it for the lack of better comedy alternative this weekend.

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' reboot of the 1990's movie is still making money ,but has been toppled from the top by the Marvel film.

The Pierce Brosnan movie, 'November Man,' grossed $820,000 on Friday and is believed to have a gross of at least $9 to $12 million domestically. It held up against the 'Identical', which is a faith movie, was not received well, but still estimated to make $2.5 million this weekend.

This weekend, Tom Hanks fans will again see the Imax re-release of Forrest Gump. It is the 1994 comedy-drama film about mentally challenged man and his journey.
