Roger Waters' 'The Wall' Documentary Premieres In TIFF; Pink Floyd Co-Founder Says His Film Is An 'Anti-War' Protest

Rock icon Roger Waters' "The Wall" documentary debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 6th and the Pink Floyd guitarist maintains that his film is not merely a concert doc but an anti-war protest.

"Roger Waters: The Wall" showcases the legendary guitarist's recent tour of the same name, in which he performed the songs from the 1979 Pink Floyd album. The documentary also features Waters commemoration of war victims and veterans.

"The only difference in the movie is that I've made a road movie about visiting the graves of both my grandfather and my father - well, my father doesn't have a grave because his remains were never found. He died in 1934 at Anzio [Italy] in the Second World War, but there is a memorial to him which during the movie I visit," Walters told Billboard magazine.

Waters, who co-directed with Sean Evans, reportedly centered the film on his aspiration to bring forth the message of peace and ending wars.

"Any armed conflict is an underscore and an exclamation mark to this movie, because this movie is unashamedly anti-war, ecumenical, and about love for all men and women whatever their race, color, creed, nationality or whatever," said Waters.

The veteran singer-guitarist also shared his thoughts about where society is heading. "I think people are sick and tired of being told that the most important thing in their life is commerce and the new this and the new that," said Waters. "And we no longer want to be told by our political leaders that they are scum and that we are great. So that I believe that it may be we're no longer interested in the 'us and the' form of political philosophy ... we may be ready to move into a new place."

The 133-minute "Roger Waters: The Wall" documentary will have two screenings at TIFF but has no commercial release date yet, according to Rolling Stone.
