‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Take Japan By Storm: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ To Appear In ‘Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers’ Anime, Number One U.S. Film Opens In Japanese Box Office

Japanese Marvel fans can rejoice as finally "Guardians of the Galaxy" will finally come to Japan, in two major ways. The first way is in a popular format that Japan is known for: "Guardians of the Galaxy" characters will appear on the popular anime series "Marvel Disk Wars: the Avengers." Secondly, the Marvel studio film that has become the highest grossing film in the U.S. this year, will finally hit Japanese movie theaters.

According to Anime News Network, "Toei Animation announced on Tuesday that the characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy film will make appearances in episodes 24 and 25 of the ‘Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers' anime." The "Guardians" will fall to earth and join the Avengers in a fight against Ronan, who releases a space dragon on earth to blackmail the Guardians into giving up the Kree Mact energy they stole.

The first episode will air on September 10th and the second episode will air on September 17th. Crunchyroll reports that "King Ryū will be writing the introduction ‘Guardians of the Galaxy' with Tsuyoshi Koga directing and Yukihiro Kitano on animation. Fumi Tsubota writes the follow-up ‘Together With the Guardians' with Morio Hatano directing and Osamu Ishikawa on animation."

While the film "Guardians of the Galaxy" has been wildly successful stateside, can it compete internationally? The film will have to contend with quite a few heavy hitters when it premieres this weekend in Japan, including the current number one film, "Stand By Me Doraemon." It will also have to contend with "Lucy" which was just reported by Deadline to be leading U.S. studio films in the international box office. If the film's success in the U.S. is a predictor, one can speculate that it will debut at number one.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" will premiere in Japan on September 13th. For U.S. fans who have somehow not seen it yet, the film is still playing in most theaters stateside.
