Psycho-Pass 2 Rumors: New Season To Include 11 Episodes? Makishima Mysteriously Survives?

While October is only a few weeks away, spoilers for the upcoming season of popular anime series "Psycho-Pass" have been surprisingly scarce. This may be due to the fact that there's no source material to reference, but fans have already begun to speculate what they can expect next month when "Psycho-Pass 2" debuts. Currently, there is a rumor circulating that noitaminA has slated an 11 episode block for "Psycho-Pass 2." Additionally, with Makishima appearing in the main character list in the teaser trailer, fans are speculating that his fate in season one is not what it seems to be.

Allegedly, based on a photo and discussion in a My Anime List forum for "Psycho-Pass," season 2 will only have 11 episodes. The photo, which is only useful for U.S. otaku fans who can read Japanese, does indicate that the series will air in October. But what evidence is there for only 11 episodes? According to TheNXTGenPop, its because "Psycho-Pass 2" will supposedly be airing for 11 weeks (11 episodes) when it replaces "Zankyo no Terror."

If "Psycho-Pass 2" will only be eleven episodes, it's a great opportunity for Funimation, Crunchyroll, and or Hulu to simulcast the series. No official announcements have been made about the air date or whether it will also be licensed again by Funimation in the states.

The second but arguably most intriguing rumor is about Makishima's role in "Psycho-Pass 2." (If you have yet to see "Psycho-Pass," the following rumor involves spoilers) In the teaser trailer released for "Psycho-Pass 2" Makishima is supposedly listed as a main character, which is confusing considering that he had a somewhat explicit death scene last season. One fan speculates that the reasons he may be listed as a character are: "A.) Flashbacks B.) Kougami has been psychologically affected by Makishima to the point to maybe where he actually believes he is seeing him. or C.) Sibyl has found a way to salvage his brain... Now that I think about it(correct me if I'm wrong), but did we ever actually see him shoot him in the cranium?"

All three sound like plausible explanations, but the most intriguing is of course the third. Either way, fans should perhaps not count Makishima out of "Psycho-Pass 2" yet.

Given that there are only a couple of weeks left in September, more rumors and announcements about "Psycho-Pass 2" are bound to surface. Nevertheless, the one clear thing is that the all new season is confirmed for debut in Japan this October.
