DC Vertigo Announces New ‘Wolf Moon’ Comic: Will ‘Sixth Gun’ Author Cullen Bunn's Werewolf Revision Get A Film Or TV Deal?

Comic book fans who love horror are buzzing today as new information about the upcoming series "Wolf Moon" was revealed in an exclusive interview by Bloody Disgusting with author Cullen Bunn. Although film and TV is saturated with the supernatural genre, could the success of the reported revisioning of the werewolf story lead to a film or TV adaptation for "Wolf Moon"?

According to Bloody Disgusting, "Cullen Bunn (Sinestro, Magneto) has been given the reigns to an all new Vertigo series that will reimagine werewolf lore as we know it. Entitled "Wolf Moon" the series sees a man's family slaughtered by the wolf. Sounds typical, but I assure you it's anything but."

They go on to give a series synopsis which hints that the lighter teen hearthrob werewolves that have recently dominated mass media is definitely not what the series will explore. In the interview, Bunn explains that he's interested in the time between transformations in which a person remembers all the horror they committed while they were the wolf. That lead him to the idea," that the Wolf might "jump" from host to host with each cycle of the moon. That opened the door to see how different people might be affected in different ways."

In other words, werewolf fans can expect the curse to come with fear and anxiety rather than the overdone excitement and acceptance. Given how exciting and fresh this series sounds, the next inevitable step in the age of adaptation would be a film and or TV version right?

Well, if what happened with the "Sixth Gun" adaptation is any indication, it doesn't look promising. After months of buzz and announcements, that pilot was eventually passed on by NBC. Although there was a little glimmer of hope offered that Universal Television would continue to shop the project around, it has more than likely fallen into development purgatory along with many other comic book adaptations.

Aside from this, one could guess that as the comic book hits stands this December, networks and producers looking for Spring and Summer projects may happen upon "Wolf Moon" and decide its worth adapting.
