iPhone 5S vs. iPhone 6: New Apple handsets have been unveiled and the highly speculated iPhone 6, with its phablet counterpart, the iPhone 6 Plus, have been unveiled. The latest iOS 8-powered device features a 4.7-inch display and an upgraded primary camera. The question is, are the specs of the iPhone 6 really better than the iPhone 5S?

The iPhone 5S dimensions are 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches. The New Zealand Herald noted that it has a large chassis needed to accommodate its screen size. The new iPhone 6, however, has a larger but flatter one. The iPhone 6 dimensions are: 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.27. It’s a bit thinner than its predecessor.

The newest iPhone now has a Retina HD ppi of 326. The iPhone 5S resolutions were 640 x 1136 while the iPhone 6 has a 1334 x 750. The old flagship’s camera features include an 8MP camera, which is able to capture 3264 x 2448 pictures and a 1080P video at 30 fps, NZ Herald noted. The iPhone 6 on the other hand has an upgraded primary camera at its rear and with Focus Pixels and Autofocus technology, allows the iPhone 6 to focus better and faster.

The NZ Herald review also noted that the iPhone 6 has improved on its videoing capabilities, now having an aperture of 80 percent more light.

Option for internal storage on the iPhone 5S include 16, 32 or 64GB of solid state memory. The new iPhone 6 is available on 16, 74 and 128GB variants. The latter also sports Apple’s latest A8 processor, with double the transistors. The new processor under the hood for the iPhone allows it to be 50 percent faster than the outgoing model.

Battery life for the iPhone 6 is said to be only “marginally better” than the iPhone 5S, Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray told USA Today. The Cupertino tech giant notes that the iPhone 6 will be 11% less taxing on battery than the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 6 is available starting at $199 on a service contract while the iPhone 5S is available for $99 also on a two-year agreement.
