23 Jump Street Is On!; Channing Tatum And Jonah Hill Set To Return For Third Installment

"23 Jump Street" has been given a go signal by Sony Pictures and Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will return for the follow-up.

According to Deadline, Sony and Original Film has hired Rodney Rothman to write the scipt for "23 Jump Street."

Rothman was one of the writers of "22 Jump Street" and is the head writer of the "Late Show With David Letterman."

The film will reportedly be produced by Neal Moritz, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, while the news about who will direct it is still unconfirmed as it is unknown whether or not Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will return.

According to Cinema Blend, "22 Jump Street"'s ending appeared to joke about sequels of films and hinted at the end of "Jump Street" movies. But it also noted how well the sequel to "21 Jump Street" fared in the box office, which may have been the reason why they will be rolling out with another "Jump" movie.

"22 Jump Street" reportedly debuted at $57 million this June and racked up to $319 million worldwide during its run.

The movie that started it, "21 Jump Street" which was reportedly inspired by the 1980s TV show of the same name starring Johnny Depp, got more than $201 million worldwide.

In an interview with MTV for "21 Jump Street" directors Lord and Miller shared how people wanted the film to have a follow-up.

"We did at one point test a version of the movie where Ice Cube was pitching more missions to Jonah and Chan and they said, 'You know what, we're good, we don't want to do any more of this stuff," said Lord. "When we showed that to a test audience they were so sad because all they want is to believe that this goes on forever."

"23 Jump Street" will continue Hill and Tatum's saga as funny covert cops in an undercover college adventure.
