As the film festival circuit continues to produce newsworthy deals for upcoming film releases, "Serena" is seemingly left to fend for itself in the states. A new trailer for the movie was revealed today with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper teaming up for their second on screen romance (third overall film together). The trailer and poster release however has not revealed any upcoming U.S. release date, which has some wondering if the film will debut in time for possible entry at this year's Academy Awards.

"Actually, the trailer looks good to me...having read the book, I'd say that neither lead looks miscast," says one fan on Indiewire's coverage of the new "Serena" trailer. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, who have demonstrated their on-screen chemistry in both "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle."

The Los Angeles Times provides a synopsis for the film: "Directed by Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier (an Oscar winner for foreign-language film in 2011, for ‘In a Better World'), ‘Serena' tells the story of a North Carolina timber baron (Cooper) and his enterprising new wife (Lawrence), who doesn't take kindly to finding out that her husband has a son from a previous relationship."

Although "Serena" has had U.S. distribution rights for a while through Magnolia, there is still no U.S. release date. Given that both Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper have been nominated in the past few years, it would seem they'd want to make the December cutoff date for the chance to make it to this year's Oscars. Since the film is already finished, perhaps the only thing in the way is running into box office faceoffs against some other Oscar favorites due out this fall.

Either way, "Serena" is set to premiere at the London Film Festival and will hit British theaters on October 24th. Here's hoping it makes it to the U.S. before the Oscar cutoff date.
