FIBA World Cup 2014: Serbia Escapes France And Batum's 35, Faces Team USA For Gold On Sunday

It was an exciting semi-final between Serbia and France earlier today where both teams played their hearts out to meet Team USA in the Finals of the FIBA World Cup 2014 in Spain.

In spite the late heroics of France's Nicolas Batum, who tallied 35 points, 8 out of 12 from the rainbow country, this Serbian team was just too strong in terms of depth, with 7 players scoring in double digits.

Milos Teodosic led the way for the Serbians with his 24 markers, together with 3 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal.

The Serbians should have not been here in the Finals as they almost failed to qualify for the FBA World Cup 2014. In a report by Bleacher Report, Serbia beat Turkey for the 7th place in Eurobasket.

Both France and Serbia took care of their on assignments during the quarterfinals, where they dispatched host country Spain, and South American powerhouse Brazil. While the French beat Serbia during the group stages, also in a tightly contested match, it failed to repeat that performance.

It turns out Serbia wants to win it more in the biggest stage of them all.

The Serbia-USA clash will be on Sunday to culminate this year's FIBA World Cup of basketball, while Lithuania and France battle for third tomorrow.

While the Serbians are certainly the underdogs coming to the finals, they're latest winning run has proven them to be competitors. Serbia was once part of Yugoslavia, which is the winningest team in FIBA World Cup history with 5 titles. That's one more compared to the USA's 4.
