OS X Yosemite release date: Apple’s landmark OS, the OS X Yosemite, will be available for download on Friday, September 19. It’s availability date is expected to be the same as the iOS 8, which is the latest mobile OS platform by the Cupertino tech giant.

Similar with past availability dates, the time are speculations and will not be confirmed by Apple until the actual day of availability.

The new iPhones, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, launched September comes with the iOS 8 platform out of the box.

“Apple’s latest desktop operating system, OS X Yosemite, won’t officially come out until sometime this fall. But now that its public beta is open, both developers and a large number of Mac owners are able to use a preview version of the landmark OS,” writes Wired Magazine.

The platform’s version available for download is its preview variant, generally made ready for developers who will be creating or updating apps for the OS.

The OS X Yosemite was announced by Apple during its WWDC conference this year, the time of the year where the company is known to share announcements on its software products. The Yosemite’s predecessor, the OS X Mavericks, was announced on the same venue.

OS X Yosemite is also OS X 10.10 and comes with a refreshed design. And like the OS X Mavericks, it will be offered for free.

“OS X 10.10 Yosemite follows in the footsteps of last year's OS X 10.9 Mavericks with an even cleaner design and more features inspired by iOS,” writes The Verge.

The new OS has flat design, transluscent panels, and lack of gradients and textures of iOS 7 can be found throughout the Yosemite. The Verge notes that the new interface update lends a much more modern look to the desktop operating system. The OS X 10.10 is also designed to work with iOS-powered devices better.
