Alicia Keys New Song `We Are Here' Asks All The Right Questions; Alicia Keys Tells `Today' Show Why `We Are Here' [VIDEO]

Alicia Keys is expecting her second child with husband Swizz Beatz in December and she wants her baby to grow up in a better world.

A week after Keys debuted her new anthem of love and understanding, "We Are Here" on "The Tonight Show," Alicia Keys performed the uplifting song on "Today."

Keys performed the song on piano under a sign that said "Love."

After the performance Keys explained why "We Are Here" in an interview with Matt Lauer, saying "This song gives us the opportunity to have that dialogue and start talking about what are we here to do for each other. I've always been an empathetic person, I've always related to what we've gone through as a humanity, but when you start seeing your kids in the mix and what they're gonna grow up in and what they're gonna be a part of, or how they can help change it, you get fiercer about it."

Alicia Keys' new single "We Are Here" was recently released on iTunes. Keys premiered the new video on Facebook, saying  "Why am I here?? This really hit me on a deep level. I realized no one had ever asked me that question before."

In the new single, Alicia Keys sings "Let's talk about Chi-town / Let's talk about Gaza / Let's talk about Israel... let's talk Nigeria / and the mass hysteria / Our souls are brought together / so that we can love each other."

Keys said, "It's not about me, it's about WE. This is OUR world. And we are here."

Keys debuted the music video for "We Are Here" along with a note explaining how the song came about.

"The day I wrote this song, I was sitting in a circle of people of all ages and we were asked, 'Why are you here.' Why am I here?? This really hit me on a deep level. I realized no one had ever asked me that question before. As I prepare to give birth to a new child, I can't help and think about the world I'm bringing my baby into. No matter where we come from, when we see the state of the world today, we can all feel the growing frustration and desire to make a difference. And we all have a voice - we just need to know how to make it heard."

Alicia Keys is working with producer Pharrell on her sixth studio album.
