Katherine Heigl Responds To Criticism After Seemingly Confusing Afghanistan With Iraq On ‘State Of Affairs’ Set, Calls Out The Washington Post

Katherine Heigl caused a slight stir when she posted a picture with co-star Chris McKenna from the set of her new NBC show "State of Affairs" on Thursday.

"Santa Clarita played the part of Kabul Afghanistan today for @nbcstateofaffairs. Kinda blew my mind... ," the actress captioned the photo on Facebook and Twitter.

However, fans were quick to point out that the street was, in fact, not made to look like a location in Afghanistan. It was actually meant to be Iraq.

"Kabul?! I think u mean Baghdad!!." wrote one woman on Facebook.

"This is not Kabul ..its Baghdad ,as written its Iraqi," replied another Facebook user.

In the photo, Heigl and McKenna are posing in front of posters that appear to display Iraq's flag as well as Arabic writing. The Washington Post stated that "the flag on the poster is likely a relic of the Saddam Hussein era: After 1991, the former Iraq leader added Arabic script - in his own handwriting - saying "God is Great" to the flag."

Heigl was quick to clear up the confusion however.

Well, that clears things up... sort of. The actress made sure to give a special shout out to The Washington Post for its report on the alleged blunder.

Heigl is no stranger to backlash from television fans. The former "Grey's Anatomy" actress was previously criticized for publicly revealing that she didn't feel the writing for her character on that series was worthy of an Emmy nomination.

The star's "State of Affairs" co-star David Harbour recently came to her defense, telling the New York Daily News that Heigl was unfairly judged by the media.

"I know that the press has sort of had a field day with her in the past, sort of about her being nasty and stuff," said Harbour. "But once you get on the inside of something and you start to see all of the personalities...and once I see her point of view, I somewhat understand a lot of her reactions."

The actor added, "I think she was admittedly at a very frustrating point in her life and she was very frustrated and she was very vocal about it. Now she sort of tells me she's kind of on an apology tour, and I wish her well for that because she's a lovely woman and she's really fun to work with."

NBC's "State of Affairs" will premiere on Nov. 17.
