Oscar Buzz: ‘A Most Violent Year’ To Open AFI Film Festival, Jessica Chastain On Fast Track For Best Actress Oscar Nomination? [VIDEO]

On November 6th, the Hollywood elite, and anyone looking for how to cast their votes in January will attend the opening night for The American Film Institute Film Festival. Most importantly, they'll get a look at Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain in "A Most Violent Year," which may be the film that secures Chastain a Best Actress Academy Award.

According to Deadline, AFI Fest director Jacqueline Lyanga praised the film, still in post-production, as "a remarkable crime drama, which is also an immersive period piece and morality tale that resonates on an emotional level."

Even though the film is still in post-production, based on the trailer and description Indiewire has already predicted that Jessica Chastain will land an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. They also explain that the competition this year seems particularly hard to predict due to only a few films worthy of Oscar buzz making the festival circuit. This includes Reese Witherspoon for her performance in "Wild" and Julianne Moore for her performance "Still Alice."

Recall that Jessica Chastain came very close to Oscar glory for her portrayal of CIA operative Maya in Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty." Instead, Jennifer Lawrence snagged the award for her insanely great performance in "Silver Linings Playbook." The Academy has been thought to award actors and actresses for lesser performances when fate twists the award out of their hands for more deserving performances. If that's the case, Chastain could win the award if there are any who felt she deserved to win over Jennifer Lawrence back in 2013.

Chastain may not need any handouts however if the Brooklyn accent she sports in the trailer (available below) for "A Most Violent Year" manages to impress. If that doesn't work, there's still a good chance she could dark horse her way into the shortlist for her impeccable performance in "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby."
