In a world created by writer Aaron Sorkin where every line is perfectly crafted and fast-paced, it's easy to miss some of the profound acting on the part of John Gallagher Jr. in "The Newsroom." In the new trailer for "The Heart Machine" however, his emotional ability resonates as he plays a man who may be experiencing every nightmare post-modern society may have had about online dating. This trailer comes right after the announcement that the actor would be joining the cast of upcoming thriller, "The Cellar," which also has John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead attached. All in all, it looks like Gallagher is transitioning out of his TV roles into film roles with ease.

At this year's SXSW Film Festival, John Gallagher Jr. talked about his roles in "The Heart Machine" in an interview with Indiewire: "I liked the character; I felt like I understood him. He's a good-hearted person who does some very questionable things throughout the film, and that's my life in a nutshell [laughs]."

Based on his role in last year's indie smash "Short Term 12," it's easy to see John Gallagher Jr. as the good hearted guy. The questionable behavior that resonates with "The Newsroom" star is arguably something audiences have yet to see from the actor. In the new trailer for "The Heart Machine," John Gallagher Jr. plays Cody, a 20-something living in New York who suspects that his online girlfriend isn't located where she claims to be. "The Heart Machine" got solid reviews at it's SXSW premiere and is set to hit theaters through Film Buff on October 24th.

Even though season three will be the final season of "The Newsroom," it appears that John Gallagher Jr. has plenty of things to keep his career going, including a new TV series and his just announced upcoming role in "The Cellar." According to Variety, he is set to join John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the thriller about a woman who suspects she's been kidnapped after a bad car accident.

Until then, fans can catch John Gallagher Jr. in the final season of "The Newsroom" in November on HBO.
