'How To Get Away With Murder' Debuts Tonight On ABC; Viola Davis Admits She Loves That Her Character Is Messy And Mysterious [PHOTO]

The new ABC drama "How to Get Away With Murder" debuts tonight at 10pm on ABC, and it's no surprise that there is a lot of buzz about it. First of all, it is produced by Shonda Rhimes, who is thought to be one of the most powerful showrunners on television. Rhimes has produced hits like "Scandal" and "Grey' Anatomy," and it is predicted that "How to Get Away With Murder" will not disappoint.

Second of all, it seems like it is built to succeed. The legal drama combines a number of winning and popular factors: strong and emotionally complex women (in this case, Viola Davis), a dark storyline, competition, the race to solve difficult cases against the clock, secrecy, and, finally, murder. Everything is high-stakes, which contributes to makings of a very enjoyable drama.

Two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis is loving her character so far, too. According to the Detroit Free Press, she stated, "I wanted to have a character that kind of took me out of my comfort zone. That character happened to be in a Shonda Rhimes show... and so I did the only smart thing that any sensible actress would do, and I took it. I dove at it. And I love the fact that she's messy and mysterious and you don't know who she is."

Davis will be playing Annalise Keating, a strong and brilliant professor and defense attorney. Each year, Keating selects four law students to help her with the legal cases she is currently arguing. However, the relationship between Keating and her students gets a little complicated due to... guess what? A murder.

"How to Get Away With Murder" will be airing on Thursday nights after two of Rhimes' dramas: "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal." It seems like airing three shows in a row isn't a problem for the producer at all. She stated, "I think I'm feeling like I'm getting up and going to work every day and we're all doing our jobs. And I don't think I'm thinking of it in terms of the night. I think it's exciting and it's a great vote of confidence from ABC, and that's fantastic."
