True Detective Season 2 Cast: Rachel McAdams As Its Female Lead Confirmed As 'The Noterbook' Star Joins Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn In The Series! Is She A Heroine Or A Villain?

While Taylor Kitsch has bagged the role of the fourth lead, sources tell Variety the role opposite Vince Vaugh and Colin Farrell has been offered to Rachel McAdams. HBO not long ago declared Vaughn and Farrell as the Season 2's leads; sources say they are expecting fans to react same identically to the female lead as they did to Rust Cohle, Matthew McConaughey part in season 1.

Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Biel and Malin Akerman were among numerous other actresses who were considered for the part, however, for the past few weeks, McAdams was the favorite to play the part. HBO has is yet to comment on this.

A source close to the matter informed Variety McAdams was all set to start filming "Spotlight", a drama whirling around the Catholic Church sex scandal unveiled by the Boston Globe and chances of working out dates for McAdams to do Spotlight and True Detective seemed thin. Sources confirmed that a deal that allowed McAdams to do both projects was worked out in the past 24 hours.

The season 2 will center around three police officers and a career criminal with Justin Lin directing the first two episodes. Creator of the series, Nic Pizzolatto has been busy writing the season 2 which is set in California.

Vaughn will portray the role of the crime boss whose partner is murdered threatening his empire while Kitsch and McAdams are expected to play cops along with Farrell.

With a packed schedule in 2015 McAdams will be seen in the untitled Cameron Crowe pic and the Jake Gyllenhaal boxing pic "Southpaw" that will hit the theatres next year. McAdams, repped by WME and Magnolia Entertainment is ready for a busy schedule next year.
