Several musicians took their time to participate and perform at the third annual Global Citizens Festival to help get rid of poverty by 2030.

Especially lending a hand to the cause are the powerful couple Jay Z and Beyonce, MTV.com reported.

More and more the rumor about the two breaking up seemed to be disappearing as Jay Z performed a duet with his wife Beyonce. MTV reported that Beyonce joining him on stage capped Jay Z's song performances.

Celebrities who joined for the cause were No Doubt, Sting, the pregnant Carrie Underwood, Alicia Keys and The Roots.

 MTV also added that world leaders such as United States President Barack Obama himself were there to grace the show. Other celebrities present were host Hugh Jackman, Prime Ministers of India, Narendra Modi; Norway Erna Solberg; and Prime Minister of Sweden and Jim Yong Kim, the President of the World Bank.

 "You are now part of the global fight to end extreme poverty, and this is a fight we can win," President Obama was quoted as saying by MTV.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also helped kick-off the Global Citizen Festival - "a celebration of global unity and a reaffirmation of the will to address the planet's most pressing issues," the UN press statement said.

The UN Web site stated that Ban Ki-moon said that the world needs people power to eradicate poverty.

"Our world needs more solar power and wind power," the Secretary-General declared from the stage in New York's Central Park. "But I believe in an even stronger source of energy: People power!"

The Global Citizen Festival was initiated by the Global Poverty Project which" is campaigning to secure new commitments to health, education, women's equality and global partnerships," the statement added.

It also said that those that volunteered to help spread the word and end poverty were given free tickets online to attend the concert.
