John Cusack movies were made at a more artful time. The High Fidelity star says it's all about money and youth now. Cusack knocked Hollywood for its unrealistic standards, saying  "for women it's brutal.'

John Cusack slammed the Hollywood studio system as a "whorehouse that it is "ripe with frontier crazies,"while promoting his latest film, David Cronenberg's "Maps to The Stars."

In an interview with the Guardian, Cusack said  "You can't make it up. It's a whorehouse and people go mad. I got another 15, 20 years before they say I'm old. For women it's brutal. [Screenwriter] Bruce [Wagner]'s thing about if you're 26, you're menopausal? It's only absurd because it's a little bit further than the truth."

Cusack laid the blame on Hollywood ageism and misogyny. He explained "I have actress friends who are being put out to pasture at 29. They just want to open up another can of hot 22. It's becoming almost like kiddie porn. It's fucking weird.

Cusack said it wasn't like this when he was coming up. The actor told the Globe "People would look after you when I was a kid. There were good people in the business. When I came to LA Rob Reiner said: 'Come stay at my house'. He taught me. I worked with [Al] Pacino [in 1996 crime drama City Hall]. Pacino would talk to you and mentor you. Now it's different. The culture just eats young actors up and spits them out. It's a hard thing to survive without finding safe harbor."

Cusack made similar statements in an interview with WENN magazine, saying "I think Wall Street has decided that the best way to sell things to people is to (sell them to) a certain teenage demographic. It seems it's even gotten more and more youth obsessed. People don't start to get interesting until they're in their 30s, because we're so stupid in our 20s; at least I was. .., A beautiful young woman came up to me at a premiere and I thought, 'Great', and she said, 'You know, you're my mom's favorite actor!' That was a hard one to take. "Everything is getting younger and younger. You see these models and think, 'I don't know if this is kiddie porn or a Cosmo cover; it's 18 year-olds!' Hollywood is getting so youth obsessed too. There's that element that doesn't feel like there's room for people at the ripe old age of 40!"
