World’s Slimmest Smartphone Is Here; Gionee Elife S5.1 Would Be 0.21-inch Thick Once Available

The world’s slimmest smartphone is here and it’s coming from the manufacturer who held the same title last year. Specs of a handset dubbed the Gionee Elife S5.1 have been leaked and it’ll only be 5.1mm or 0.21-inch thick. It’s 0.01-inch thinner than the Gionee Elife S5.5 that is currently on the market.

“Gionee seems all set to launch its new 'slimmest smartphone in the world', dethroning its own current Elife S5.5 handset, if multiple Chinese reports and image leaks surrounding a handset named Elife S5.1 are to be given credence,” writes NDTV.

Chinese publication CNMO has leaked the unannounced Gionee Elife S5.1, showcasing the full handset. Another site, Zol.com, claims that it had a hands-on experience with the upcoming device.

NDTV notes that based on this leaks, specs of the Gionee Elife S5.1 include dimensions that spans 139.8x67.4x5.15mm. It also has a 4.8-inch HD AMOLED display and is powered with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) processor running on 1GB of RAM.

Other revealed specs of the S5.1 are: 8MP rear camera, 5MP front facing camera, 16GB inbuilt storage that is not expandable, and a 2100 mAh battery. It could also run on Android 4.3 with Gionee’s Amigo 2.0 interface on top.

The features of the Gionee Elife S5.1 noted is similar with a Gionee handset that was spotted with model number GN9005. The said model has a 4.8-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8MP rear-rear camera with flash, and 16GB of storage.

Gionee is a China-based handset maker. It is one of the largest mobile phone manufacturers in the country and has started focusing on slimmer smartphones after 2010. The Gionee Elife S5.5, launched in 2014, currently holds the title of world's slimmest smartphone.
