Annie Lennox openly talks about her opinion about Beyonce's branding herself as an artist with feminist leanings during the MTV Video music awards last month saying that feminism is very contradictory to the singer's sexy clothing and butt-shaking on stage. Lennox made the statement in an interview with  GLBT website PrideSource.

"I would call that 'feminist lite.' L-I-T-E. I'm sorry. It's tokenistic to me. I mean, I think she's a phenomenal artist-I just love her performances-but I'd like to sit down [with her]. I think I'd like to sit down with quite a few artists and talk to them. I'd like to listen to them. I'd like to hear what they truly think" the 59-year old icon says.

The Eurythmics lead act and Anti-HIV/AIDS Advocate said that aimed her criticism not only towards Beyonce but to other recent artists who use the label 'feminism' to boost their career without really knowing the depth of the word.

"I see a lot of it as them taking the word hostage and using it to promote themselves, but I don't think they necessarily represent wholeheartedly the depths of feminism-no, I don't."

Moreover, the No More I Love You's singer said that musicians use feminism cheaply and wrongly in the guise of promoting sex, sometimes, in the wrong audiences.

"I think for many it's very convenient and it looks great and it looks radical, but I have some issues with it. I have issues with it. Of course I do. I think it's a cheap shot. I think what they do with it is cheap. What can I tell you? Sex always sells. And there's nothing wrong with sex selling, but it depends on your audience. If they're 7-year-old kids, I have issues with it."

Annie Lennox's fame is on its peak in the 80s and the 90s with her band Eurythmics. She is a philanthropist and LGBT rights advocate.

Meanwhile, Beyonce has been opened with her feminist views and always make sure to mention it in her shows and interviews.

In the January 2014 Shriver report as quoted by E! Online, the diva said, "We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible."
