Ryan Phillippe And Reese Witherspoon Reflect On ‘Cruel Intentions’ While Spending A Family Day With Their Children

Remember when Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon were newcomer co-stars in "Cruel Intentions"? And they were in love in real life?

So does Ryan. The actor recently revealed in an interview that he and his Oscar winning ex-wife spent a little time reminiscing about the film they made together in the '90s. And they took their kids with them on the trip down memory lane.

While speaking to HuffPost Live on Monday about "Catch Hell," the upcoming film that he wrote as well as stars in, Phillippe shared a story about a recent family outing. He and Witherspoon took their kids Ava, 15, and Deacon, 10, to Central Park in New York City.

"We got to meet up as a family and took a walk through Central Park with the kids, and it was funny," Phillippe told the publication. "We were reminiscing then because we shot a lot of 'Cruel Intentions' [there], so there we were with Ava and Deacon talking, and they were tripping out on the fact that we were there shooting a movie before they were even a thought in our minds."

Phillippe, 40, and Witherspoon, 38, were quite the Hollywood dream couple. They married in 1999, shortly after the release of "Cruel Intentions." The pair filed for divorce in 2007, citing irreconcilable differences.

"It's a feeling-out process and I think we've gotten to a really good place," said Phillippe. "It's going well, and she's happy and remarried [to CAA agent Jim Toth], and our kids are incredible. I'm proud of the way we've handled it and who our little people are."

As for his acting career, Phillippe acknowledged that he is fortunate to have worked onscreen for over twenty years.

"For my age, I've had such a long career. I did my first movie at 19, and I just turned 40. All of that stuff sort of becomes...I don't want to say background noise, but it becomes part of the territory. You see old photos here and there. You see acquaintances. I had a cool moment this morning on the Today show where I ran into [Joshua Jackson], who I hadn't seen in a long time. He was in Cruel Intentions...and he was so great," said Phillippe. "He's such a nice guy."

Perhaps not so coincidentally, Witherspoon shared a a publicity photo from "Cruel Intentions" on Instagram a few weeks ago, which included her ex as well as co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

"Ahh the 90's... #Cruelintentions #TBT," the actress captioned the pic.

Phillippe admits that his kids have not yet watched their parents' classic film, which is certainly risqué.

"I guess Ava could," admitted Phillippe, "but I've literally only done one or two non-R-rated movies." He then added, "They haven't seen much of my work."
