‘Psycho-Pass 2’ Release Date Set For October 9th, Funimation To Simulcast Series For U.S. Fans

Fans of the popular cyberpunk anime "Psycho-pass" will have plenty to celebrate in the next 24 hours as the season two premiere episode will air in Japan tomorrow on October 9th. Furthermore, any U.S. fans worried they'd have to rely on fansubs will be happy to know that Funimation will simulcast "Psycho-Pass 2" starting today as well.

Although simulcasts have become a staple of competition amongst anime giants Funimation, Viz Media, Crunchyroll, and Aniplex, there was some doubts that the company would not be able to pursue every simulcast opportunity. In fact, Michelle Lee, the official social media representative, recently commented on this issue:

"Due to similar issues we deal with, business decisions must be made based on how well a show performed during its initial broadcast."

Lee further explained that while fans do not have to watch a show within the first 24 hours of going live (although that helps), as long as fans watch the episodes until the final episode premieres, the numbers will count. In other words, it helps to watch "Psycho-Pass 2" as fast as you can.

For those unfamiliar with the series, "Psycho-pass" is one of the latest series written by the Urobutcher himself, Gen Urobuchi, who also created "Puella Magi Madoka Magica." According to Anime News Network, it follows newbie police officer Akane Tsunemori "in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person's state of mind and personality." This information is then used to determine someone's likelihood of committing a crime using their crime coefficient.

Last season left us with a hardened Tsunemori who is now coming into the brutal position of enforcing the law. Spoilers have been scarce, but based on the trailer, "Psycho-Pass 2" looks as though it won't disappoint when it is released today worldwide, thanks to Funimation
