2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Michael Beasley Cut By Memphis Grizzlies! B-Easy Moves To China To Join Yao Ming’s Team

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions included non-guaranteed contracts that could be waived, and Michael Beasley was the one of the cuts before the season starts. After losing his last chance with the Memphis Grizzlies, he's off to China.

The Shanghai Sharks are no strangers to NBA talent. Their owner is from the NBA himself. Yao Ming was the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft and played with the Houston Rockets before nagging injuries forced him to early retirement.

Now he is a team owner in the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) and has no qualms on signing NBA talent. Beasley is his latest acquisition.

The news was reported by Yahoo Sports:

"Michael Beasley has left the Memphis Grizzlies' training camp and signed a one-year deal with the Shanghai Sharks of the China Basketball Association, agent Jared Karnes told Yahoo Sports on Thursday.

Beasley had come to the Grizzlies' camp on a non-guaranteed deal and his chances of making the opening night roster were still uncertain. The opportunity to accept a lucrative one-year deal with Shanghai proved too difficult to pass on."

For free agents who have become underappreciated or passed on by NBA teams for different reasons including off-court problems, China has become a viable option. Players like Beasley or Andray Blatche are still talented but had discipline and some off-court issues.

Blatche decided to take a $ 2.5 million offer from the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers rather than fight for a final roster spot for an NBA team which will only pay him the veterans minimum-well below the million dollar mark. Details of Beasley's contract were not disclosed in the report.

There have already been successful returns to the NBA from other players who have found their bearings in international play. The CBA season ends in March and the players from the Chinese clubs can actually join an NBA team for a playoff push.
