Tesla Model S With Autopilot Features Unveild At A Packed Event As Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk Says 'This Car Is Nuts'!

In a dramatic product launch, Tesla Motors CEO, Elon Musk unveiled an all-wheel drive adaptation of its famous Model S sedan at a jam-packed event Thursday evening at the Hawthorn, Calif. The new model will include autonomous-driving features.

The announcements were preceded by a week of speculative excitement after Musk posted an ambiguous message on Twitter stating that it was "about time to unveil the D and something else." Some analysts anticipated that Tesla would bring to light a prototype pf Model 3 sedan which will enter production in 2017 and will be mid-priced.

"There's been a lot of speculation of what the "D" stands for," Musk told the crowd which seemed to hang on to every word of Musk as he explained the reference was to the all-wheel drive's dual motor configuration, which eventually will enhance the car's performance.

Musk further added, "This car is nuts, it's like having your own personal roller coaster," he said, addition of the dual motor Model S will accelerate from zero to 60 in just 3.2 seconds and additionally, three driving modes would be offered simply at the push of a button.

"We're going to have Normal, Sport and Insane," regarding adding the button, Musk said, the button "will actually say 'Insane'."

Tesla has faced criticism for not imbuing the Model S, which stickers for $70,000 and includes features like all-wheel drive and adaptive cruise control, features which are easily available even in much less expensive cars. Talking about the auto-pilot features of the card, Musk said that its achieved through forward looking radar, sonar, cameras that can easily read traffic signs as well as GPS positioning. The feature will enable owners to start it and also engage accessories like radio, air conditioning remotely. Moreover, the owner can also summon car provided it is on property. Musk said, "It will slowly make its way to you."

Musk informed that the cameras and sonar necessary for the autopilot features are already there in all Model S cards which were produced in the last two weeks. Self-driving cars are speculated to be inevitable and they are coming sooner that you expect. The autonomous driving feature that Musk announced, have been available for over a year on the Mercedes-Benz S Class sedan.

The event was held outside an airplane hangar decorated with a huge Tesla logo and with around 2,000 attending the event, it looked more like an Academy Awards after-party rather than an automobile launch. The charged atmosphere confirmed that Musk has built an emotional connection with Tesla customers. May attending the event were Model S owners who received a similar invitation to the event as the media.

Sharon Coce, a Model S owner from Yorba Linda, Calif., told THR, "I think it's amazing what he's done." She further added that when she and her husband picked up their Model S at the Tesla factory in Fremont, Calif., Musk was present there and he even autographed the sun visor of their car. Coce said, "That's pretty cool."
