Leighton Meester Album Release Date Announced; Ex Gossip Girl Star Talks Music And More

Leighton Meester's album has been given a release date and fans of the former "Gossip Girl" Queen Bee will be surprised at the new sound of her record.

Leighton Meester's album called "Heartstrings" will be out in stores on October 28 and while it is not her first attempt at breaking in to the music industry, her sound veers away from her previous pop inclinations.

The first single off her new record, which bears the same name as the album, was released in late September.

In a previous interview with Billboard, Meester discussed the first single from her nine-song LP, produced by Jeff Trott. "'Heartstrings' speaks to [the] vibe and encompasses a lot of the themes of the rest of the album," she said. "It's been a long time coming and I'm very excited to finally release it."

The singer-actress shared how different making music and acting are for her, saying "With music it's nice because I can plan everything [and] I can do it," she said. "With acting I have no control: Either I have work or I don't."

Meester also opened up about the new sound of her music and how it speaks about her as an artist, saying: "As far as I'm concerned, it's kind of just me. I want people like me to be able to relate to it and be able to understand it in their own way. Ultimately, I'm just really pleased with it ... I think I'd gone through so many different incarnations and so many different phases, and this music always comes back and I just love it."

Some of the musical influences she cited include Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Robert Plant, Kate Bush, Paul Simon, the Police and Bonnie Raitt.

Leighton Meester's album, according to the singer-actress, "is for people who don't know anything about my acting and don't listen to pop music."
