Richard Gere and Padma Lakshmi has reportedly called their relationship off after six months of dating, according to a report from the New York Post's Page Six.

Rumors that Richard Gere and Padma Lakshmi were dating started floating around in April of this year and the couple reportedly tried to keep the relationship under wraps. But despite the privacy, the relationship unraveled as the couple reportedly agreed and "decided they would better as friends." Apart from the intent to remain just friends, the couple also reportedly cited their respective careers as a reason for the break-up.

The confirmation of the split reportedly came from Lakshmi who said she was single when asked about her dating status.

A source reportedly claimed the "Runaway Bride" actor and the "Top Chef" host were "just getting to know each other."

"They're just dating. This is the first person she's dated since Teddy [Forstmann] passed away and she's just putting a toe in the water of the dating world again. They're not sure where it's going yet," the source reportedly told People magazine.

Both Gere and Lakshmi came from relationships when they reportedly started dating. Gere and his wife of 11 years Carey Lowell had only recently divorced then. And Lakshmi was reportedly still testing the waters since losing former boyfriend Teddy Forstmann to brain cancer in 2011.

"They have been quietly spending some time together," said a source to The Post in April about the then budding relationship. "It's all very new and recent." The couple were only spotted together a few times in public.

Before getting in a relationship with Forstmann, Lakshmi was previously married to British author Salman Rushdie for three years. Gere was also married to supermodel Cindy Crawford. They both have children from previous relationships.

Meanwhile, representatives for Richard Gere and Padma Lakshmi have yet to comment on the reports.
