What should we look forward to for tonight's episode and the rest of the first season? Warning: "Marry Me" Season 1 spoilers ahead!

According to the Boston Herald review of the pilot episode, the author claims "It's the sequel series to "Happy Endings" we not only need but deserve. You remember "Happy Endings." The ABC sitcom (2011-2013) tracked six deliriously silly friends and was, during its brief run, one of the best comedies on prime time. For some strange reason, it never found a large audience. Now one of its stars - Casey Wilson, who played dippy, dreamy, obsessive Penny - is back, here as someone named Annie, but playing essentially the same person, and even surrounded by people who look suspiciously like some of her "Happy Endings" co-stars. Best galpal Dennah (Sarah Wright Olsen, "Parks and Recreation") could be Jane's twin. An overweight schlub could be Max with a beard, only his name is Gil (John Gemberling, "Broad City"). He describes himself as a "34-year-old divorced hair plug salesman with sleep apnea and a body like a bag of ground beef." If "Marry Me's" tone and humor match "Happy Endings," that has a lot to do with executive producer and writer David Caspe, who also wrote that show and married Wilson earlier this year. "Marry Me" is loosely based on their relationship, though one would hope there aren't nearly as many meltdowns in real life. "

"Annie has been dating Jake (Ken Marino, "The State") for six years and was counting on getting a ring during their romantic two weeks in Mexico. In her apartment, she finally loses it and goes on an epic tear that not only rips him but their friends and his mother (JoBeth Williams, "Hart of Dixie"). ("The most negative person on the planet," she swears of the latter.) Of course, they're all waiting and hiding for Jake's surprise proposal. Jake decides he can't propose now - thus denying Annie a "victory lap around the Internet." A brief flashback captures the moment Annie and Jake caught each other's attention at a restaurant. "Enjoy your hate nachos," Annie said then. Not exactly love at first sight, but, meh, close. Annie decides to propose to Jake. What could go wrong? Everything. After the fallout, Jake says, "Why does everything have to be such a huge production with you? It's like dating a drag queen!" "It's not my fault! Have you met my dads? They named me after a musical!" she says. Annie's dads, both named Kevin (played by Tim Meadows, "Saturday Night Live," and Dan Bucatinsky, "Scandal") like to bicker over which one is Annie's biological father. The fallout of Annie's proposal leaves Annie and Jake wondering if they're meant to be together. It's an NBC sitcom. You can figure it out. Wilson might be playing Penny with a better apartment, but she's always a delight. Marino makes for a great sparring partner, and Williams has been off our screens far too long," continued Mark Perigard of the Boston Herald.

It will certainly be entertaining to see Season 1 of this brand new romantic comedy series play out!
