Android 5 L Release Date: New Android Version Name Confirmed By Google Developer, Will Be Named Lollipop

For the longest time, we have been hearing rumors that the upcoming Android 5 L release date will be named Lollipop.

However, during previous events from Google, the company did not mention any name for the new version. During its I/O Conference last June, the search giant never mentioned anything aside from the version number which is Android 5.0.

The Android-maker released preview screenshots, hands-on videos and even listed some of the new update's features, but not its branding.

However, in a new report by Phone Arena, it looks like a Google developer has accidentally confirmed that the new Android 5.0 will be named Lollipop.

In the report, the developer released a screenshot of an app allegedly running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Aside from the actual panel of the app, one thing that is noticeable is the lollipop icon at the top left part of the screen.

In previous versions of Android (Kit Kat), this icon represents the current type of Android version running on the device in USB debugging mode.

The screenshot is at the top, and see for yourself whether this is fake or not.

Thankfully, we don't have to wait much longer for Google's announcement. In previous reports, the search engine giant would be unveiling its new Android version tomorrow. Also included in the announcement list are the new Nexus devices, the Nexus 6 (X or Shamu) from Motorola, and Nexus 9 from HTC.
