"Captain America 3" may be the most explosive Marvel movie yet! According to reports, it will be the springboard for the much-awaited "Civil War" adaptation!

Some of the signs are already falling into place. The enigmatic Robert Downey, Jr. who has recently confirmed "Iron Man 4" on Ellen, is now in play for Captain America 3.  

The bomb was dropped by Variety: "The actor is in final negotiations to play the billionaire in the yet-to-be-titled third installment, that is slated to begin production in the Spring for a May 6, 2016, release, according to sources close to the discussions. Downey suits up as the superhero in next summer's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" as part of a previous deal that also calls for him to reprise the role in "The Avengers 3."

It should be remembered that "Captain America 3" was Marvel's assigned movie to take on "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice." While Warner/DC has backed down, they moved to an earlier playdate and Cap 3 will still be inevitably compared to their box-office take.

It is logical to think that Marvel has grand plans for Cap 3 since they were willing to have it go toe-to-toe against the most popular heroes in the world (Superman and Batman). As Newsarama points out,

"While Captain America's first two films were successful summer(ish) films, neither were in that prime slot. Cap 3's claiming of that date seems to suggest that something major is coming for the franchise that could put it on par with the Avengers and Iron Man franchises."

Another point that they stressed is that Stark and SHIELD are inevitably linked. It was already confirmed that there will be flashbacks in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and that Howard Stark will also appear. It is also known that Iron Man is also responsible for creating Ultron. Thus:  "That could mean that Tony's leaving the picture after Avengers 2, RDJ is signed for Avengers 3, making it more likely that Tony's role in the films will be drastically altered - perhaps with him picking up his father's legacy, in rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. the right way."

Yes, Iron Man will be in Avengers 3, but will they be fighting together, or against each other? That's the billion dollar question.  "Captain America 3" and all its guests and villains will be seen on May 6, 2016!
