Neil Patrick Harris To Host Variety Show On NBC! “How I Met Your Mother” Star Bringing Comedy And Music To TV In 2015!

Neil Patrick Harris is everyone's pick to host just about anything!

The "How I Met Your Mother" star just signed a deal to host a variety show on NBC. The project, which will reportedly be based on a British series called "Saturday Night Takeaway," will include comedy, music, and a whole lotta NPH.

According to Vulture, Harris's variety show was given a 10-episode order and will likely be filmed in New York City.

"As I watched the show, I couldn't stop smiling. Now that I've seen many seasons, my face hurts. It's a game changer," Harris told Vulture when asked about ITV's "Saturday Night Takeaway," the inspiration for his new project on NBC. "Nothing like this has been done before, and it's unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!"

Harris discussed the possibility of doing a variety show during an interview with radio host Howard Stern a few months ago.

"I think if it's weekly, and people really want to see it, and you trust that there's a lot of really great shit on there, then you're gonna get the guests to want to come on there," said Harris.

The "How I Met Your Mother" star added that he would like to see the show be "a weekly thing, you'd have more time to prep for stuff, you could pretape stuff that would be really exciting, you could flesh it out more."

The show will reportedly receive a new name and will not air on Saturday night's, which is typically considered the worst day for a television show to run.

Harris, who has hosted countless award shows over the past few years and is set to host the Oscars early next year, has had the idea of presenting a variety show for quite some time now.

"I want to do an Ed Sullivan-y kind of show, with all the variety acts," the actor told Craig Ferguson during an interview three years ago.

NBC is allegedly planning for the show to premiere in 2015 after Harris wraps up the Oscars.
