Ellie Goulding Reacts To Condemnations Of Her Native American Costume; ‘Lights’ Songstress Promises To Donate To Relevant Campaign

English pop songstress Ellie Goulding "racist" costume prompted her to issue a statement for her bashers. Goulding faced backlash after donning a Native American costume for Halloween. Some have accused the blonde beauty of mocking the race.

The "Beating Heart" singer wrote on Twitter that she only wore the "beautiful unathentic headpiece for about five minutes."

While several web users criticized Goulding for her choice, some quickly came to her defense. Goulding, who will be perforning at the annual Royal Variety Performance in England this week, garnered the support of conservative parliament member Philip Davies.

"'I never cease to be amazed at how easily people will take offence - and usually this is white, middle-class, Guardian-reading, sandal-wearing, politically correct do-gooders who are offended on someone else's behalf," Davies said as reportd by Mail Online. "The people concerned are never usually offended themselves."

Crystal Speer, a spokesperson from the Native American Heritage Association, also thinks that people reacted way too much about the photo: "I can see both sides but unless you're Native American yourself I don't think it's right for you to say whether it's offensive or not."

The "Lights" singer has reportedly pledged to donate to the Running Strong campaign. The organization is committed in providing support to Native American people especially the youth.

Apart from Goulding, Pharrell Williams was likewise chastised earlier this year for wearing a headdress on the cover of Elle UK magazine. People came up with the Twitter hashtag "#NotHappy" which used Williams' hit single as a reference.

The crooner apologized after the incident: "I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture. I am genuinely sorry."
