Katy Perry Dishes On Song Inspired By Russell Brand Divorce, Discusses Contemplating Suicide

Katy Perry may have moved on from ex-husband Russell Brand but the songstress admits that the break up of her marriage was an extremely dark time in her life.

In a recent interview on Australian talk show "The Project," the 30-year-old songstress revealed that her divorce led her to contemplate suicide. Perry also discussed a song that she wrote about her relationship with Brand.

"Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotions," admitted Perry on the show (via the Daily Mail), adding, " Yeah, I was depressed and it was sad and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully."

Perry also revealed that "By the Grace of God," the last track on her latest album "Prism," was inspired by her struggle to cope with her heartbreaking divorce.

"Then there's 'By the Grace of God,' which is the first song that I wrote coming to make this record, when I was in a different place, I was in a darker place," she explained. "You always feel like you're the only one going through that. Well then comes along a song that speaks to you, that makes you feel like, 'Gosh, I can get through this. If she can get through this, I can get through this.'"

In the emotional track, Perry sings, "We were living on a fault line / And I felt the fault was all mine / Couldn't take it anymore... I looked in the mirror and decided to stay / Wasn't gonna let love take me out that way."

The "Roar" hit maker is now rumored to be in a relationship with DJ and music producer Diplo.

Perry tweeted her alleged beau "Happy Birthday" on Monday, adding a playful emoticon of a shrimp, which was likely a reference to Diplo's song "So Many Shrimp."
