Reese Witherspoon On Nude Scenes In New Movie ‘Wild’: ‘It Was Scary And Challenging’

Reese Witherspoon is getting raw in her upcoming film "Wild."

The 38-year-old actress recently opened up to E! News about taking on the role of a promiscuous heroin addict who embarks on a 1,100 mile hike in an effort to find herself in a story based on a best-selling novel by Cheryl Strayed. Witherspoon discussed her nude scenes in the movie and revealed that the task of stripping down on screen was indeed "scary."

"I had to make a choice when I decided to do the film on how much I wanted to bear," explained Witherspoon, who also produced the film. "I have a real story to tell here because Cheryl was completely honest when she wrote her book."

"It was scary and challenging," she continued. "It's not just a movie about somebody walking. It's really about someone who feels profoundly hurt and lost."

Strayed revealed that, from early on, Reese was a prime choice to play her in the story of her life, which became a New York Times best-selling memoir.

"I knew her to be a talented actress with wide range," the author told E! News. "Something I always felt with Reese was that no matter what character she was playing, I felt her presence. She was at the top of my list."

The director of "Wild," Jean-Marc Vallée, recently told E! News that he admired the way Witherspoon transformed herself for the movie.

"It's beautiful to see her let go and get out of her comfort zone and say, 'I am going to produce it, star in it and I am going to do it in a way that's going to be tough and I'm going to be naked and raw, both physically and emotionally,'" remarked Vallée.

"Wild" hits theatres on Dec. 5.
