GD, Will He Continue The Popularity Of PSY-2NE1 For YG?

People are starting to wonder if G-Dragon will be able to continue on the popularity trend started by other YG artists like PSY and 2NE1, as he begins his approaching solo comeback.

G-Dragon will officially begin his solo activities with the revelation of "That XX," his new single released on Saturday. Since "Heartbreaker" in 2009, this is his first solo song in 3 years. He didn't even try to pass the rating committee and volunteered to attach the Parental Advisory rating on his record.

This comeback follows two other giant YG successes, starting with 2NE1's "I LOVE YOU" single back in July and Psy's "Gangnam Style." The expectations of G-Dragon is higher than ever, as people are anticipating a comeback single that is just as good as the previous two. They have also been successful outside Korea and this just makes the burden on GD's shoulders even heavier.

2NE1 took advantage of their success by starting on their global tour, 'New Evolution.' They held their first concert in America, drawing over 7,000 fans and getting cameos from artists like Will.I.Am. They drew important industry experts like the CEO of the biggest record label company who manages Lady Gaga and Eminem.

As for Psy, the name 'World Star' is no longer foreign to him. Psy has been contacted by T-Pain and Justin Bieber and his American debut has been pushed forward to September. "Gangnam Style" is now 44th on the iTunes single charts, which is the first for a Korean artist. He has been featured by CNN, WSJ, ABC and other American media outlets and have been mentioned by world stars like Britney Spears and Katy Perry.

G-Dragon is another world name managed by YG Entertainment. He is the mascot of YG and one of the artists that are at the core of the company, which is why there are higher expectations for his comeback. He released a single "ONE OF A KIND" before releasing his title song, which is different from the approach other Korean management companies have been taking to this point.

Nothing much has been revealed about his title song, "That XX," other than its provocative words and imagery and the fact that YG newbie Jenny Kim will be starring in it. We can only assume that it will be as stylish and funky as his previous music videos. G-Dragon is seen as one of the biggest fashion icons in Korean pop culture and people are anticipating that he will bring about a new fashion and visual phenomenon with his single release.
