Kathy Griffin To Replace Joan Rivers On E! Show 'Fashion Police:' Sources Say Rivers 'Wanted Kathy To Be Her Successor;' Melissa Rivers Will Also Join The Panel [PHOTO]

It has been recently confirmed that Kathy Griffins will be replacing the late comedienne Joan Rivers on the E! show, "Fashion Police." According to the Daily Mail, the 54-year-old "My Life on the D-List" star has signed a deal to join the panel along with Rivers' daughter, Melissa Rivers. Former co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne will be returning, but it is unclear whether George Kotsiopoulos will stay on the show.

Griffin was offered the spot on the show two weeks ago, but seemed unsure of her decision. At the Make Equality Reality event in Beverly Hills, California, Griffin confided, "they did offer [the spot] to me." However, she also added, "I don't know if the situation is correct at this time or right for me at this time," referencing the event of Rivers' death.

Before it was announced, Rancic had her own doubts about how well the show would run without Rivers. According to Hollywood Life, she stated, "I have to say that I am happy that [the show] is returning... But personally, I have to be honest: it's going to be tough, but the executives at E! are taking it very seriously and they are thinking of all sorts of scenarios and all different people and I am sure that they will make the right decision," conveying both her grief at the loss or Rivers and her faith in the show's executives.

It seems that Griffin already had Rivers' blessing, though - sources told US Weekly that "Joan has always given her blessing to Kathy" and that "she wanted Kathy to be her successor." The insider continued, "They talked about it many times... They have such a similar sense of humor and were the best of friends. Joan would have loved seeing Kathy on "Fashion Police" and she would have definitely approved."

Melissa Rivers doesn't seem to have any qualms with it, either. She has agreed to continue to produce her mother's show, and has given her blessing to the choice. However, there will be some definite changes made to the airing of the show itself. It will no longer be aired on a weekly basis, but only during awards season and other special occasions as event programming. Luckily, the Oscars and the Golden Globes are coming up soon!
