The first "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" surprisingly did well in the box office when it was released in 2013, thus Paramount Pictures is reportedly gearing up for a movie sequel!

The filmed starred Gemma Arteron and Jeremy Renner ("Avengers" as "Hawkeye"), which took place 15 years following the gingerbread house incident. It grossed over $55 million domestically and over $225 million internationally

Director Tommy Wirkola has reportedly teased about the sequel's plot telling CraveOnline,

"I can only say there's voodoo involved," the director revealed.

However, an article from Coming Soon claimed that Wirkola will no longer be helming the second film, but he had reportedly completed the storyline and had already submitted it to the studio for approval.

The greatest challenge the team is currently facing is how would they be able to fit "Avengers" star Jeremy Renner's busy schedule to start filming hence, "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2" is scheduled for release sometime in 2016.

On that note, speculations soon arise that Jeremy Renner who successfully portrayed the role of Hawkeye in "Avengers" might not be able to reprise his role as Hansel, specially when asked if the studio had already contacted him to reprise his role.

Upon promoting his political drama thriller project "Kill The Messenger," Kristy Puchko

 Of Cinema Blend was able to talk to Renner and asked about the planned sequel for "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters"

"Not that I'm aware of, no. I know they're going to make one. I know they're writing a script. And that's when they will probably engage with any talent," the "Avengers 2" actor claimed when asked if he's already signed on a deal with the studio.

He also seemed surprised when Puchko told him that news suggests that the script for the film has already been forwarded to Paramount.

He then confirmed that he hasn't been contacted yet, saying:

"Yeah (they have not), and it's ultimately going to come down to--I know they have a release date and they really want to get it out there--but I have to have the time. I'm only one man, right? And then also Gemma's availability. It'll come down to availability I'm sure."

However, "Avengers" star Jeremy Renner assures fans that he is more than willing to reprise his role in "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2"

"I don't have any problem with it. Yeah. It was a lot of fun. It was fun to do that movie, and just have a ball. "
