"Scandal" season 4 cast Tony Goldwyn can only describe the much-talked about steamy phone sex scene as "uncomfortable" as the actor expressed optimism about the future of Fitz and Olivia's love story.

The 54-year-old actor was the guest on Ellen DeGeneres Show and the host needled him about the phone sex scene during the November 26 episode.

First off, Tony Goldwyn said that the scene took him by surprise, according to Us Weekly.

"Of course, as you know, on 'Scandal' we never get the scripts until we all sit down together, usually the day before shooting, and read them out loud together," he said. "So I'm reading this script totally blind, and I get to this scene...and it was really hot! And pretty out there -- I could not believe they aired that on ABC."

During the reading session, "Scandal" season 4 cast Tony Goldwyn couldn't help but blush especially when his co-stars were there listening to him.

"I went bright red in the table read...and doing phone sex was actually in a way harder than doing a regular sex scene," Tony Goldwyn told Ellen DeGeneres. "Because a regular sex scene, it's all so weird and ridiculous, and you have this other person that you're with. But for [the phone sex scene], it was me, alone on the phone, actually having phone sex with someone, and just the crew watching me!"

Meanwhile, "Scandal" cast Tony Goldwyn told TV Guide that he still thinks there's hope for Olivia and Fitz. "I do believe it. I don't know if anyone else does, but I do. He would never give up on the fantasy; that's what keeps him alive. He is absolutely resolute in his certainty that if they're given that chance, they would have a great, healthy relationship. He may live in a fantasy world, but he truly believes that he and Olivia are the answer for one another no matter what."
