Jennifer Lawrence’s “Hunger Games: Mockingjay” Song Hits Billboard Top 20 Chart

Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence may be known for her acting chops, but the star has just accomplished a pretty impressive feat in the music world too.

"The Hanging Tree," the song Lawrence sings in her latest film "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1," has reportedly debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 12.

The song is actually credited as James Newton Howard featuring Jennifer Lawrence. Howard composed the score to the new "Hunger Games" film and is one of the most celebrated composers in Hollywood history. He has earned eight Oscar nominations over the course of his career.

The lyrics for the song were written by Suzanne Collins, the author of the "Hunger Games" book series, and the Lumineers' Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz.

As for Lawrence, the actress may be a bit surprised by the success of "The Hanging Tree." In an interview on "The Late Show with David Letterman," the star recently dished about her mortifying experience singing the song on set during filming.

"I do not like singing in front of other people. It's, like, my biggest fear. I cried on set that day," she told Letterman. "That was awful."

"I'm like, scarred from my childhood because I have a Southern mother who would just tell me that I was amazing at everything, that I could do everything. But, I can't," added the "Silver Linings Playbook" actress.

Lawrence's song is now the highest charting single from any of the films in the "Hunger Games" franchise. She beat out Taylor Swift's "Eyes Open" from "The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 and Beyond" soundtrack, which rose to number 19 on the chart in 2012.
