Stephen Fry To Wed Young Lover Elliott Spencer: Critics Question Age Gap Between 57 Year Old English Comedian And 27 Year Old Junior Comedian [PHOTO]

English comedian Stephen Fry is set to marry 27-year-old comedian Elliott Spencer, who is 30 years his junior. The news of their engagement leaked on Tuesday, and had many people criticizing the age gap between the two men.

According to People Magazine, Fry tweeted on Tuesday, "Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I'm very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!"

The Guardian reports that the couple has been dating since November of last year, and made a formal application to marry December 23, 2014. The documents state the wedding will take place at the Breckland Business Centre, which houses the register office and has a ceremony room that can hold up to 40 people.

Though there were some congratulatory Twitter remarks for Fry and Spencer, others were quick to point out the age gap taboo. One user stated, "I didn't even know Stephen Fry had a son - I mean boyfriend." Another said, "I find Stephen Fry's engagement a bit gross. He looks like his son."

Spencer's father, who is 57-years-old, is actually the same age as Fry. However, he and his wife have given the engagement their blessing. According to the Daily Mail, Spencer stated, "We are obviously very happy. We are over the moon; that is all I want to say."

Furthermore,  Fry - who can be seen in theaters "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" and heard narrating all seven "Harry Potter" audiobooks - seemed nothing but elated after breaking the news. He wrote, "Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx."

When asked about the wedding date, Fry said: "Now, we won't be giving that away. And I'm sorry to say you won't be invited. It will be some time this year, as you have to give a year's notice."
