Iconic Drama Series 'X-Files' To Return In New Installment, David Duchovny And Gillian Anderson Will Participate Despite Scheduling Problems [PHOTO]

The iconic drama series "The X-Files" is coming back! According to Deadline, Fox TV Group Chairman Gary Newman confirmed the revival of Chris Carter's supernatural series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

The Verge reports that it is unclear what the new series might be about. The original X-Files series ran for nine seasons and led to two films, the most recent of which was released in 2008.

Fellow Fox TV Group Chairman Dana Walden later said that the conversations so far have been mainly logistical, as Duchovny and Anderson are both presently starring in shows on other networks.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Walden stated, "Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of 'The X Files.' It was a great experience. We've maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We're very hopeful, but it's hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it's just trying to carve out the time."

In the past, Anderson stated on the subject of shooting a limited TV series, "I live in London. I've got three kids, it's not a small proposition and it would take a lot longer to shoot than a movie would. I need to think about that."

There have also been rumors about bringing back "Prison Break." When asked about it, Newman sounded skeptical yet interested. He said, "There is some speculation in the press about 'Prison Break,' which honestly was slightly news to us."

He continued, "Although we've made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring 'Prison Break' back in a heartbeat. It's probably the perfect event series. If our old partners in that show are interested, that would be great."
