While it has been years since Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus broke up, the former Disney actor still made it a point to defend the "Wrecking Ball" songstress. Perhaps the 22-year-old crooner, who is now the boyfriend of Olivia Culpo, understands how difficult it is to stick with one's Disney image.

As opposed to his "wholesome" persona during the Jonas Brothers days, Nick's appeal is now more mature following his regular topless photo shoots. His self-titled album also has an edgier tune.

Like Jonas, Cyrus also shed her Disney image and she has been criticized for her antics. Nick, however, praised the "So Undercover" actress for handling her detractors well.

"Criticism will come with whatever you do," Nick Jonas told the British paper, The Sun. "But Miley trod those waters very carefully and was very confident in who she is and what she's about."

Nick similarly clarified that even if he defended ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus, they're no longer in touch.

"We haven't really stayed in touch that much. I think we just grew apart over time, started to move in different circles," he said.

Like Miley Cyrus who's now enjoying her romance with Patrick Schwarzenegger, Nick Jonas is likewise happy with Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo.

Recently, reports even claimed that there might be a proposal this coming Valentine's Day. The "When You Look Me in the Eyes" crooner has been allegedly shopping for an engagement ring since last month.

At the recently concluded Miss Universe 2015 pageant, Nick Jonas said that Olivia Culpo thought he was going to propose. While performing his hit song "Jealous" for the evening gown portion, the former Disney star went off the stage to serenade the 22-year-old beauty in her seat.

"I went down and sang to her, and I [got] on a knee and approached her," said Nick to The Sun. "Her face was in full panic. She thought I was going to propose on national TV in front of one billion people."
