Netflix Working With Nintendo To Develop Live Action Series 'Legend Of Zelda,' Show Not Yet Finalized [PHOTO]

Rumor has it that Netflix is working together with Nintendo in order to develop a live-action series based on the popular videogame "The Legend of Zelda." According to The Verge, the TV show is in its early stages, and Netflix would like for it to resemble "Game of Thrones" but with more a family-friendly appeal.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the series would focus on an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda from the evil sorcerer Ganon in the fantasy world of Hyrule. "Zelda" games have typically introduced swords and sorcery, and are said to have a light-hearted tone to them.

So far, both Netflix and Nintendo have declined to comment on the rumors concerning the show. A Nintendo spokesman said the company "doesn't comment on rumors and speculation." Their reason for silence could be because Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property. An animated "Legend of Zelda" series ran for only one season in 1989, and the Rolling Stone Magazine reports that the 1993 live-action "Super Mario Bros." film was a commercial and critical disaster.

However, "Zelda" videogames have done very well in the past. The game franchise has more than a dozen sequels over a handful of Nintendo platforms, including "A Link to the Past" and "Ocarina of Time." That means that there would be a lot of storyline content to choose from for television material.

But we can't get too excited yet. The search for a writer for the series is still ongoing, and it is possible that Netflix or Nintendo could kill the project before it gets off the ground.

Would you watch a live action series of "The Legend of Zelda" if it were available on Netflix?
