This past Saturday, record executive Clive Davis took a moment of silence at his Pre-Grammy Gala for Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. According to Variety, Brown remains in a coma after being discovered unconscious in a bathtub in Atlanta on Jan. 31.

Supposedly, Houston died of strangely similar circumstances just hours before the 2012 gala. According to the New York Daily News, the famous singer was standing outside her hotel bathtub when something caused her to crash facedown into scalding water, which was measured at 93.5 degrees several hours after she died on Feb. 11. Her official cause of death was said to be accidental drowning due to the "effects" of heart disease and cocaine use.

Davis said of Houston, "I miss her. I miss her personally, and I miss her as staggering performer." He then spoke to People Magazine about Bobbi Kristina Brown's circumstances, stating, "It's very painful and heartbreaking to see the family go through such pain again. I have been in touch with the family and offered my support and prayers."

The link between Davis and Houston goes way back. Houston was both his close friend and protégé, and he recalled the first time he ever saw her perform. He stated, "It was at a club called Sweet Water, in 1983. She was doing back up singing for her brother and mother Cissy, and then did two solo songs that were essentially her 'audition' for me."  

After seeing her perform, he signed her immediately. "I said, 'She will be for the next generation what Lena Horne was for her generation.' If you ever saw her live, it was so overpowering... Never has a voice so effortlessly or emotionally been able to bring the songs home. She received standing ovations time and time again."

Given Davis' close friendship with Houston, the moment of silence taken for Brown makes perfect sense. According to E Online, Brown's family issued a statement earlier this month, stating, "Bobbi Kristina is fighting for her life and is surrounded by immediate family. As her father already stated, we are asking you to honor our request for privacy during this difficult time. Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, and we greatly appreciate your continued support."
