James Franco To Produce And Star In Hulu Series '11/22/63,' 'The Interview' Actor Will Time Travel In Stephen King Adaptation [PHOTO]

Actor James Franco has recently announced that he will be playing the part of both producer and actor in a new Hulu original series titled "11/22/63." According to Variety, the show will be nine episodes long, and is based off of a bestselling Stephen King novel of the same name.

The show will also be produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. TV, and King serves as executive producer along with Abrams and writer Bridget Carpenter. The show also marks the first original programming collaboration between Hulu and WBTV.

Genre-wise, the production will be a thriller. Deadline describes the plot: "'11/22/63' centers on Jake Epping (Franco), an unassuming divorced English teacher who stumbles upon a time portal that leads to 9/9/1958 and goes on a quest to try and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy, which occurred on November 22, 1963. But his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, his falling in love, and the past itself ... which doesn't want to be changed."

It definitely sounds like this part thriller, part love story will be able to lure audiences in. Even Stephen King thinks so, and said at the time of the show's announcement, "If I ever wrote a book that cries out for longform, event-TV programming, '11/22/63' is it."

Franco's role as Epping will be one of his first main lead roles on a TV show in a while. According to Mashable, "The Interview" actor has most recently appeared on "The Mindy Project," Nick at Nite's long-gone primetime soap "Hollywood Heights," and "General Hospital."

As a result, we are quite intrigued as to how his performance will play out! The series does not have a premiere date yet, but we'll be keeping an eye out for more details to come.
