Lady Gaga Says Meeting Julie Andrews Was 'A Dream Come True,' Sound Of Music Oscar Performance To Change Her Career? [PHOTO]

This past Sunday at the 2015 Oscars ceremony, Lady Gaga toned down her usual theatrics in order to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of "The Sound of Music." Her medley of songs wowed everyone who heard her performance, including Julie Andrews.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Gaga began by singing "The Sound of Music," and then segued into "My Favorite Things." The medley concluded with "Edelweiss" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." To everyone's surprise, at the end of the performance Julie Andrews walked onstage and gave Gaga a big hug.

Gaga said of the experience, "I started crying. It was a beautiful moment. As a child performer and a music lover, you dream your whole life that you will get to perform for somebody like that, and it was just magical."

She continued, "I had just spoken to Julie on the phone the day before and she was telling me to just relax and enjoy myself and then when she came out at the end, it was the perfect moment. I can't even explain it. It was a dream come true. It was a surprise. I think my nerves went away when I woke up this morning. It was much more nerve-racking planning."

It seems that some people are surprised that Gaga can sing so well, as many took to Twitter to express themselves following her performance. One such tweet reads, "Well this is unexpected, but #everythingisawesome @ladygaga." Another says, "@ladygaga let em know you're more than a meat dress. Girl has got range."

According to the Washington Post, Gaga's impressive and classical vocals are no bombshell - she and Tony Bennett have been collaborating since 2011 and recorded the chart-topping pop album "Cheek to Cheek" last year. Her competence should come as no surprise, but she has certainly gotten everyone's attention now that her talent has taken center stage.
