Zendaya Criticizes Giuliana Rancic For Alleged Racial Slur About Her Dreads At The Oscars, 'Fashion Police' Host Issues Apology [PHOTO]

This past Sunday at the Oscars, "Fashion Police" host Giuliana Rancic allegedly criticized Zendaya Coleman's appearance in a derogatory way.

According to the Huffington Post, Zendaya sported a satin ivory Vivienne Westwood gown and a head of waist-length dreadlocks. Rancic stated, "I feel like she smells like patchouli oil." Her sentiment was then followed by co-host Kelly Osbourne, who commented, "Or weed."

Zendaya did not take the criticism lightly, and penned an open letter on the subject via Instagram. An excerpt reads, "There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful. Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe... To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive."

She continued, "There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair... I suggest some people should listen to India Arie's 'I Am Not My Hair' and contemplate a little before opening your mouth so quickly to judge."

Rancic hastily posted an apology tweet, stating, "Dear @Zendaya, I'm sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!"

She also made a lengthier apology this past Tuesday - this time while on television. She addressed the issue, stating, "Something I said did cross the line. I didn't intend to hurt anybody, but I've learned it is not my intent that matters. It's the result. And the result is that people are offended, including Zendaya, and that is not okay. Therefore, I want to say to Zendaya and anyone else out there that I have hurt, that I am so, so sincerely sorry."

Zendaya has yet to respond to Rancic's apologies.
