Demi Lovato explained her recent Instagram photo about thigh gaps, said Entertainment Tonight Online. The "Skyscraper" singer also shared her challenges being a role model.

Demi Lovato's Instagram post in question showed the 22-year-old in a bikini. "You don't have to have a thigh gap to be beautiful," she wrote in the caption.

The former Disney star explained the reason behind the said Demi Lovato Instagram photo and its caption.

"I keep hearing the term "thigh gap" more and more frequently," she said.

"If you have one naturally, then great, embrace what you have. But, if you don't have one naturally, you don't have to starve yourself or engage in unhealthy behaviors."

"If you don't have a thigh gap naturally, it doesn't mean you aren't beautiful," Demi Lovato pointed out.

The former teen star said that her positivity comes from knowing that a lot of people consider her as a role model.

"I feel like every public figure has been put in the public because they are meant for more than just singing," she said.

"I had a lot of people that I looked up to when I was younger that weren't the best role models, so for me, it's a responsibility to hold myself accountable and to be that inspiration for young girls and even people who are older than me."

"I have a little sister and I wouldn't want her looking up to other people who don't necessarily use their voices for good," Demi Lovato added.

The singer and actress detailed how proud she is to inspire people, being able to use her experiences as a troubled teen several years ago.

"I think what inspires me is remembering that I deserve to be the best that I can be and also knowing people look at me as a role model ," Demi Lovato said.

"It gives me the fire to continue to be strong and try to show people that there's so much more to life when you take care of yourself and when you are able to be all that you can be."
