The murder case of Amanda Knox is brought into the spotlight once against with the release of the "Face of an Angel" trailer featuring Cara Delevingne, who plays Melanie, the person that Meredith Kercher is reportedly supposed to be had she not been brutally killed.

"Supermodel Delevingne plays a British student called Melanie who works in a bar in Siena, Italy," said TIME. "She befriends a crew of journalists and filmmakers, including protagonist Thomas (Daniel Brühl) and Simone Ford (Kate Beckinsale) as they cover the appeal of a murder conviction of an American student."

The film draws heavily from the novel of the same title, which was also inspired by the media hype surrounding the Amanda Knox murder case.

According to Independent, filmmaker Michael Winterbottom said that "Face of an Angel" is not about the Amanda Knox murder trial.

"We try not to borrow from the specifics from Meredith's life," Michael Winterbottom said. "But the film is about the father and the family's love for Elizabeth who is absent and about Daniel's character's love for his daughter, who is absent."

"Cara/Melanie is the one who is there, she represents, or embodies certain qualities - optimism, joy in life, the spirit of happiness and energy, all the things that these people have lost because of absence."

Nevertheless, Michael Winterbottom felt the need to show "Face of an Angel" to the family of Meredith Kercher, particularly her brother Kyle, to seek their approval.

"One of the things that I saw at the start was how the Kercher family had not got involved in the media circus," he said. "They went to Italy to make sure Meredith wasn't forgotten. For me the film is about this - why do you forget girls that are the victims in a case?"

"We showed him the film and we thought it was a film that served her memory and he agreed, so we added the dedication at the end."

Italy's Ansa said the Court of Cassation is set to hear the appeal on the Amanda Knox murder case appeal on March 25.
