'Game Of Thrones' To End Soon Despite Pending 'Winds Of Winter' Release Date? Author George R.R. Martin Says His Piece On HBO Series

Will the "Game of Thrones" end before the "Winds of Winter" release date even comes out?

The contract between David Benoif and Dan Weiss with HBO was only for six seasons. The producers think that the show will wind up in seven seasons, while the cable network wants the highly successful series to run much longer than that.

"We know basically how many hours are left in this story. It's about finding that sweet spot so it works for us and for HBO and, most of all, it works for the audience," Benoiff told Entertainment Weekly.

But what does George R.R. Martin think?

In a post on his blog, the author did not talk about the "Winds of Winter" release date but he did weigh in on "Game of Thrones."

"I do know that David & Dan have stated in interviews that they see the show winding up in seven seasons. People send me emails about that every time I say 'I don't know' in response to the question, as if I were somehow unaware of what D&D have said. I'm not," he wrote.

"I also know that HBO wants the series to run longer than that. I have known that since the very beginning... well, actually, since the day after the second episode of season one aired, when I had lunch with one of HBO's top execs, who told me, 'We want this to run ten years.'"

"I allowed that ten years sounded fine to me. I continue to hear similar sentiments from HBO every time I have meeting with them, be it in LA or New York," the author added.

As of now, there's no "Winds of Winter" release date yet even if fans are worried that the events in "Game of Thrones" will supersede the fate of the characters in the George R. R. Martin novels.
