Nina Dobrev is leaving "The Vampire Diaries." The actress announced on her Instagram account that she is leaving her show for good after six seasons.

The 26 year old posted a photo of herself and the creator and executive producer of the show, Julie Plec, with the caption, "I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime."

The actress then detailed some of the highlights of "The Vampire Diaries"' six seasons, especially the events of her character Elena's love life.

"Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever," the actress wrote.

"I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert's life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her - and to my work family - as I move on to the next chapter of my life," she added.

Though the official statement is that Dobrev is leaving the show because she wants to concentrate on other projects, plenty of fans are wondering whether there is a deeper reason for her departure.

But according to E! Online, Nina just feels that her time on the show is up. "After six seasons of long hours, and for a big part of it, playing two demanding roles, [Nina] has said she's simply ready to get some rest, reclaim some of her freedom and move on to other opportunities," the source wrote.

Plenty of fans are devastated with this news, but one person seems to be celebrating over it. According to Hollywood Life, Ian Somerhalder's fiancee Nikki Reed is happy about Nina's decision to leave.

 "One person who isn't sad to see Nina leave is Nikki," the source reportedly said. "She has definitely been persona non grata on the set and it made things uncomfortable with her and Ian."

"It's a relief that Nikki can now visit her fiance on set and not worry about any awkwardness with his ex and her friends," the source added.
